Wi-Spy gadget . . .

One of the guys that works for me purchased a product a long time ago from MetaGeek called Wi-Spy 2.4x. I knew it was handy for him to work with wireless networks but had no clue how handy until they showed us how to use it in the class yesterday.

For $399 you'll be hard pressed to find another spectrum analyzer for the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi range that does all this thing can do. It is not a full blown spectrum analyzer and the price shows it, but for doing site surveys and getting some clue as to what is in the air around you during the planning and deployment of a Wi-Fi network this tool rocks.

Here is a decent little video that shows what the thing can do. I wish they had a voice-over going with it instead of the text boxes but you'll get the point.
